FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Why isn't my domain name working?
There are a variety of reasons for your domain name to not work. Below are a few of the most common ones:
1. The domain name hasn't been registered
In order for a domain name to work, it must first be registered. We offer domain name registrations for as low as $8.88/year. You can search and order a domain name from the "Register Your Domain Name" text box above, or follow the link below::
Once you have registered your domain name, you will be asked to input the DNS servers. If you are ordering a new account along with the domain name registration, the DNS servers will be automatically set for you. If registered elsewhere, it is important that you use Server Pro's DNS servers, or your domain name will not resolve to your account. To find out what DNS servers to use, please follow this guide.
Note: Once a domain name has been registered, please give it up to 72 hours to start working in your browser. This lag is there because DNS servers from different ISPs around the world need time to pick up this new domain name. This process is called "propagation". Unfortunately there is nothing we can do to speed up this process as this is out of our control.
2. The domain name is registered but the DNS servers are set incorrectly
To check if the DNS servers for your domain name are set up correctly, you can do a whois check on your domain name. In the output you will see the DNS servers associated with the domain name. If they don't match the ones required as according to this guide, then your domain name will not resolve to your Server Pro account.
If the domain name was registered through us, then you can update your domain name's DNS servers from your Billing Manager, or contact our tech support for help.
If the domain name was registered elsewhere, however, you will need to go to the domain name registrar where you got the domain name from and change the DNS servers from there. We do have a few Flash tutorials for some of the more common registrars. Feel free to check it out here. Otherwise, you will need to consult the domain registrar's help files or email their support staff for instructions. We will not be able to help any further because there are many domain name registrars and they all have different procedures on how to get things done. Additionally, we will not be able to make the change for you as only the owner of a domain name is authorized to do this.
3. The domain name isn't has been set for your Server Pro account
You have registered your domain name and have also set the DNS servers correctly. However typing the domain name in your browser still doesn't bring up your site. Why is this?
In order for a domain name to resolve, not only do you have to register it and set the associated DNS servers properly, we must also configure the domain name on our end so that it maps to your specific Server Pro account. If you are just wanting to change your account's domain name, then simply email support@serverpro.com and we will take care of it for you. If, on the other hand, you are looking to park an additional domain name to your account (meaning more than one domain name will now route to your Server Pro account), then you must purchase a domain name setup here.
